The online and blended learning environment is expanding, it allows learners to enjoy a distance and engaging environment. Teaching and learning in the 21st century are not limited to the walls of a classroom anymore. Nowadays universities and schools are developing their teaching and learning styles with the support of technology. Combining the new technologies with the online and blended learning environment results in improving the learner's experience in pedagogy. The assessment practice has also evolved greatly over the past few years. The most important aspect for teachers to consider in online and blended learning environment assessment is to select an appropriate digital tool that aligns and adopt with learner's needs.

The book Assessment in Online and Blended Learning Environments edited by Selma Koç, Xiongyi Liu, and Patrick Wachira, discusses different aspects of online and blended learning assessment. Domain, technology and community three factors that teachers should consider in deciding the assessment technology technique with their learners. The book demonstrates deep discussions about formative and summative assessment and how to implement it in an online learning environment. Formative assessment assists learners to build up their understanding of the topic. In an online learning environment, formative assessment such as online quizzes and discussion boards helps in growing learners skills and community. Summative assessment is the end product that measures if the learners have achieved the goals and objectives of the online learning environment.

In my point of view, the online learning environment is a new way of teaching, some may find it useful others may not. Online and blended learning environment gives the learners comfortable environment. Learners can set on the sofa, in a restaurant anywhere they find comfortable and attend the session. Also, learners get to choose any topic they want to learn at a lower cost or for free. Online learning environment boosts the level of self-motivation for leaners. On the other hand, online learning environment doesn’t offer face to face interaction which might be an issue for learners who prefer face to face interaction. In addition, online learning environment requires time management which some learners might find difficult.

I have created this video on a previous course in my master’s degrees which reflect why WhatsApp is a great social media tool to be used in a learning environment and its benefits.

This video demonstrates what first-year students should expect from their journey in the architectural world and how architecture is not only about designing it's about creating stories, music, and inspiration. This video will help people or learners who don’t have a background in architecture to have a better understanding of its concept. The learners who are studying architecture will find this video interesting and engaging. Plus, the ones who have experience in architecture will see this video as a true story.

This video is by Liz Ogbu from TEDx talk that really inspired me. As an architect-engineer doing master’s degree in instructional technology, I always get asked; why you shifted your career. Honestly, after watching this video, I couldn't have said it any better. So, if you want to know why I shifted my career and what I am hoping my architecture background will reflect and add to my education career. Watch the video!
