2a. Coach teachers in and model design and implementation of technology-enhanced learning experiences addressing content standards and student technology standards.
What:
I worked very closely with a Mentee as her coach to evaluate digital tools and resources in her classroom to assist her students in their learning process. The plan focused on respecting the existing rules regarding integrating technology but still introducing it in small steps to monitor students' performance to start making significant changes for more significant effects. We conducted a need analysis for the target students to evaluate which tool will be introduced to support their learning journey. According to the evaluation, tools were introduced, and student interaction was monitored closely. Three tools were introduced in the classroom to match the diversity of students.
So What:
In a school, the environment where school management and parents are not open to taking time from student learning to integrate technology makes it hard to force such ideas on them. We gave students tips on the ice burg and asked them to explore it. Students used the digital tools outside of the classroom but reflected on them at the school, making them more excited about the learning process and more excited about the English class.
Now What:
Removing the traditional methods by force will not do anyone any good. Our job is to make sure that we give parents, management, teachers, and students the resources that prove the change that digital tools have in our learning and teaching community. We need to have proven and statistics on students' performance with and without technology to allow others to determine the difference. I would love to discuss with someone who is against changing the traditional methods to take them through the digital world and where it can take us.
